This allows you to adjust the settings for your audio equipment and camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"set-up-your-camera\">Set up your camera<a href=\"#set-up-your-camera\" class=\"av-heading-anchor\"><i class=\"bi bi-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see a preview video of the camera your device selected by default in the Quick Setup window. If you want to select a different camera, you can do so in the menu on the right of the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-alfaview-callout\">\n<p>If you see the message <strong>Camera is turned off<\/strong> instead of a video, please activate your camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" class=\"wp-image-657\" style=\"width: 20px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.alfaview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/icon-camera-off.png\" alt=\"Camera icon\"> <strong>Camera off <\/strong>icon above the preview video.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then, click on the <strong>camera on <\/strong>button<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Your camera is activated when the camera symbol is displayed in blue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"select-a-camera\">Select a camera<a href=\"#select-a-camera\" class=\"av-heading-anchor\"><i class=\"bi bi-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the drop-down menu with the camera icon and the name of the preselected camera.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The drop-down menu will open. You can choose from <strong>colour backgrounds<\/strong>, <strong>standard backgrounds<\/strong> and <strong>study backgrounds<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Standard backgrounds<\/strong> also offer three levels of <strong>blurring<\/strong>. To select the blur intensity, click on the drop icon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also select the option to mirror your own video for yourself. The participants in the alfaview room will see your video unmirrored. You are also not able to see other participants&#8217; videos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-alfaview-callout\">\n<p>alfaview follows the principle <strong>I see you, you see me<\/strong>. In practice, this means that you can only see the videos of the other participants if your own camera is running.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"set-up-your-audio-device\">Set up your audio device<a href=\"#set-up-your-audio-device\" class=\"av-heading-anchor\"><i class=\"bi bi-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>You can select your audio device from the menu to the right of the preview video. Click the microphone icon to open the drop-down list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The drop-down list is divided into the tabs <strong>Headset<\/strong>, <strong>Microphone<\/strong> and <strong>Speaker<\/strong>. Here you can select your preferred devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-alfaview-callout\">\n<p>If you connect a new audio device to your computer after starting alfaview, a message window will appear. In this window you can select the new device as the audio device.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"headset\">Headset<a href=\"#headset\" class=\"av-heading-anchor\"><i class=\"bi bi-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In this tab, you can select the headset to be used in the alfaview room.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can also activate the <strong>Echo cancellation<\/strong> and <strong>Noise cancellation<\/strong>. To do so, click on the switch next to the feature you want to activate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.alfaview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/alfaview_audio-setup_en.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"515\" src=\"https:\/\/support.alfaview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/alfaview_audio-setup_en.png\" alt=\"In the audio menu, select which microphone, headset, or speaker you want to use. If no headset is detected, there will be only the Microphone and Speaker tabs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"microphone-and-speaker\">Microphone and Speaker<a href=\"#microphone-and-speaker\" class=\"av-heading-anchor\"><i class=\"bi bi-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to use a separate microphone and speaker instead of a communication device, select the devices in the <strong>Microphone <\/strong>and <strong>Speaker <\/strong>tabs. To test the functionality of your speakers, click <strong>Test Speaker<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are using a separate microphone, we recommend that you enable <strong>Noise cancellation<\/strong> and<strong> Echo cancellation<\/strong>. This will minimize background noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"echo-cancellation\">Echo cancellation<a href=\"#echo-cancellation\" class=\"av-heading-anchor\"><i class=\"bi bi-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are using a separate microphone and loudspeaker instead of a headset, we recommend that you enable <strong>Echo cancellation<\/strong>. This setting prevents audio being picked up from your speaker and retransmitted by your microphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-alfaview-callout\">\n<p>If you are using a headset, Echo cancellation is automatically disabled.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"noise-cancellation\">Noise cancellation<a href=\"#noise-cancellation\" class=\"av-heading-anchor\"><i class=\"bi bi-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Noise cancellation filters out unwanted background noise from microphone transmissions, improving your audio quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"activate-microphone-before-entering-an-alfaview-room\">Activate microphone before entering an alfaview room<a href=\"#activate-microphone-before-entering-an-alfaview-room\" class=\"av-heading-anchor\"><i class=\"bi bi-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>You can decide whether you want to enter the alfaview room with the microphone on or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To do this, click the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" class=\"wp-image-647\" style=\"width: 20px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.alfaview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/icon-microphone-inactive.png\" alt=\"mic off icon\"> <strong>microphone <\/strong>icon above the preview video.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the button is blue, your microphone is on. class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" class=\"wp-image-2115\" style=\"width: 20px;\" src=\"https:\/\/support.alfaview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/icon-settings.png\" alt=\"\"> <strong>Settings<\/strong> icon in the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.alfaview.com\/en\/alfaview-app\/alfaview-room\/primary-and-secondary-controls\/#secondary-menu\">secondary menu<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Audio settings:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on <strong>Audio<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select your <strong>microphone<\/strong>, <strong>speaker<\/strong> and <strong>headset<\/strong> from the corresponding drop-down menus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enable or disable <strong>Echo Cancellation<\/strong> and <strong>Noise Cancellation<\/strong> by clicking on the sliders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Advanced Settings<\/strong>, you can <strong>optimize your microphone<\/strong> and set the level of <strong>noise cancellation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Video settings:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on <strong>Video<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select your <strong>camera<\/strong> from the corresponding drop-down menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protect your privacy by using <strong>virtual<\/strong> <strong>backgrounds<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-alfaview-callout\">\n<p>We recommend the automatic Noise cancellation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to optimize your microphone yourself, you can use our <strong>Microphone optimization<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column <strong>Noise cancellation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Advanced settings<\/strong> and select <strong>Microphone optimization<\/strong>, which allows you to manually adjust the noise cancellation for your microphone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We recommend that you use the Optimization wizard. Make sure the indicator bar turns blue and moves beyond the slider to the right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When you are not speaking, the indicator bar should be orange or invisible.
